Two main approaches Inside Mount (recessed) — blinds sit inside the window frame. Gives a clean, built-in look. Requires reasonably square and deep frames (minimum 5–6 cm depth recommended). Outside Mount — blinds cover the frame and a little wall on all sides. Best when frames are shallow, uneven, or you want to make the window appear larger and block more light.
Step-by-step (Inside Mount) Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom of the frame. Use the smallest measurement. Measure the height on the left, centre and right. Use the smallest. Measure the depth of the recess to confirm your chosen blind type will fit. Note any obstructions (handles, latches, security bars).
Step-by-step (Outside Mount) Decide how much you want the blind to overlap the frame on each side (we recommend 5–8 cm per side for good light block). Measure the total desired width (frame width + overlaps). Measure from the top of where you want the blind to hang down to the bottom (include any sill or floor clearance you want).
Pro tips from our team Always use a metal tape measure — cloth tapes stretch. Measure in millimetres if possible (we convert for you). Double-check: measure twice, order once. For very large or arched windows, send us photos — we love a challenge.
